Auntie Ashley
Auntie Ashley
Ashley is another one of our OG Aunties! She’s sewn over 1,000 masks since the first week of the pandemic to support our efforts. She works as a nonprofit recruiter and trainer, a university lecturer, and is also a full time MBA student! Plus she drives our supplies from LA to the San Diego Aunties. AND… she sews with her mom sometimes! When does Ashley sleep?! Probably never!

“Being part of this group has been cathartic, meditative, and grounding. When I need a break from work or studying, I’ll grab some supplies and knock out 10 masks. I’ve built muscle memory, so it’s one of those tasks that relaxes me. I have also grown to really appreciate the people I have met as part of this community: picking stuff up from people’s homes, giving strangers my address (we’re no longer strangers), meeting up in an IKEA parking lot to trade elastic for fabric (in the very lean days early on) and even a socially distanced auntie meet up with all the San Diego aunties (complete with tons of individually packed potluck items, mask precuts, and bath bombs). This network is one of the most amazing things to come out of the pandemic.”
